Delhi Capitals Plot Coaching Coup with Ganguly and Yuvraj at the Helm

Delhi Capitals are preparing a sweeping overhaul of their backroom staff for IPL 2027, with Sourav Ganguly lined up as head coach and Yuvraj Singh set to join as assistant, according to a report by Cricbuzz.

The reshuffle extends beyond the top two roles. Chaminda Vaas has been identified to take charge of the fast bowling department, while Amit Mishra is in line to oversee spin bowling duties. The changes come as JSW Sports assumes operational control from GMR, signalling a shift in direction following a period of underwhelming results.

Vaas Already in Camp

One piece of the puzzle has already fallen into place. Vaas has joined the New Delhi camp, bringing with him a distinguished playing record that includes 355 Test wickets, along with substantial coaching experience. His immediate arrival suggests the franchise is wasting little time in reshaping its support staff.

Not every avenue was open. Talks with Anil Kumble and Zaheer Khan did not progress, leaving the franchise to pursue the Ganguly and Yuvraj combination instead.

The Glamour and the Challenge

For supporters, the prospect of two of Indian cricket’s most celebrated names occupying the dressing room carries obvious appeal. Ganguly and Yuvraj were central figures in India’s rise as a limited-overs power, and their presence would lend the franchise considerable stature.

Yet the reaction has not been uniform. Fans have welcomed the glamour while acknowledging a familiar truth: reputations forged as players do not automatically translate into coaching success. The appetite for results on the field remains as sharp as ever, and the new leadership will be judged by what the team produces rather than the weight of its collective name.
