If you are trying to upgrade your weapons or expand your base, you have probably realized that basic wood won’t work anymore. Hardwood in Windrose is an important mid-game resource, but it does not just spawn anywhere, and tracking it down can be frustrating if you don’t know where to look.
Here’s how you actually find Hardwood, farm enough of it without wasting time, and start using it for your upgrades.

To get Hardwood, you must travel to the Foothills biome. Once you reach there, look specifically for Divi-Divi trees. You can locate them usually around central areas, higher ground, or near rocky patches.
These trees stand out from the rest of the forest because they have a distinctively twisted trunk and upward-angled leaves.
Note:
Before you can start exploring the Foothills and unlock this resource, you have to defeat the first major boss Thomas Richards in the Coastal Jungle.

To harvest this resource, you will need at least a Copper Axe or better tool like an Iron Axe because a standard stone tool will simply bounce off the tree trunk.

Since Hardwood drops alongside Tree Bark, inventory management is critical. Make sure to clear your ship’s storage before heading out as both of these resources have low stack limits and your bags will fill up quickly if you’re not prepared.
Enemies in the Foothills are much stronger than early-game mobs. It is recommended to place a Fast Travel Bell or a Tent right next to a dense cluster of Divi-Divi trees so that you have a safe respawn point and you can quickly transport your materials back to base.
Avoid cutting small Divi-Divi saplings. They just give regular wood, so it’s usually better to leave them and come back later after they’ve grown.
Tip:
Hardwood is also available for purchase from the Natural Resources vendor after you earn a level 2 reputation with the People of Tortuga faction, but it will cost you a lot more Piastres.
