Whether you’re looking to upgrade your ship for the open seas or craft that sleek Privateer armor set, Tarred Fabric in Windrose is the mid-game resource you can’t afford to skip.
Getting this resource is not that complicated, but however you cannot grab it naturally in the game. To craft Tarred Fabric, it requires you to travel across multiple different biomes. Once you understand where each material comes from and how to combine them, you can start producing it consistently.

Start with Linen Fabric. For that, you need Flax Fiber, which is found in the Foothills biome. Search for blue or purplish-colored bushes spread across elevated areas.

Once you have picked enough fiber, take it back to your base and use a Spinning Wheel to convert it into Linen Fabric. You will need 3x Flax Fiber to produce 1x Linen Fabric.
Tip:
If you are running low on Flax Fiber, some traders at outposts sell crates containing 30x flax fibers starting at 25x Pisatres.

Next is Tar, which appears in the Cursed Swamp biome. Locate Tarwood Trees. Remember these are not normal trees, they typically grow in small groups of 2–3 trees near the waterside.
Tip:
Use an Iron Axe to chop down a Tarwood Tree, because if you try to use a Copper or Stone axe, your character will perform a “bounce-back” animation, and the tree will take no damage.

Interact with the Tanning Rack and look for the Tarred Fabric recipe.
To craft this material you’ll only need:
- 1x Linen Fabric
- 1x Tar
That’s it. Now Tarred Fabric in Windrose is ready to fuel your high-tier crafting needs.
You can do a lot of things using it. Bring it to the Armor Workshop to assemble armor sets like the Marksman, Privateer, or Conquistador.
Beyond personal defense, it is also an important material for naval fights. You’ll need large quantities of this material at the Shipyard to construct very large ships such as the Brigantine and the Frigate.
