Top Scorer Ayush Mhatre Ruled Out of IPL 2026

Chennai Super Kings have suffered a massive setback, with young batting sensation Ayush Mhatre ruled out of the remainder of IPL 2026 due to a hamstring injury that will require 6-12 weeks of rehabilitation.

The 18-year-old was seen clutching his left hamstring after attempting a second run during CSK’s clash against Sunrisers Hyderabad on April 18 in Hyderabad. He required on-field attention before eventually being helped off the field by the physio. Scans on Monday confirmed the extent of the injury.

Mhatre’s absence is a significant blow to the five-time champions, who have struggled for momentum this season. After losing their first three games, CSK won two on the bounce before falling to SRH. Ayush Mhatre has been the team’s top scorer so far, notching two half-centuries at a blistering strike rate of 177.87.

The injury adds to CSK’s mounting woes. The franchise has already lost Khaleel Ahmed for the tournament, while Nathan Ellis was ruled out before the season began, and Dewald Brevis has been unavailable for the initial games. Veteran MS Dhoni has yet to feature this season and could be a contender to return to the playing XI, subject to his fitness.

CSK’s next fixture is against Mumbai Indians on April 23 at the Wankhede Stadium.
