MS Dhoni Will Always Have a Place at CSK, Says CEO; Watch Video!

MS Dhoni

Chennai Super Kings CEO Kasi Viswanathan has made it clear that legendary former captain MS Dhoni will always have a role at the franchise, regardless of whether he continues playing or transitions into a non-playing capacity.

Speaking after CSK’s disappointing IPL 2026 campaign, where they finished eighth with six wins from 14 games, Viswanathan emphasized that the 44-year-old Dhoni, now limited by fitness concerns, holds the key to his own future.

“The franchise leaves it entirely to him,” Viswanathan stated, affirming that CSK will support whatever decision Dhoni makes regarding his playing career. The CEO also highlighted Dhoni’s continued value as a mentor, with the franchise open to keeping him involved in any capacity.

Despite the tough season, marred by injuries and heavy defeats to Gujarat Titans, Sunrisers Hyderabad, and Lucknow Super Giants, Viswanathan called for patience with young players and expressed full backing for captain Ruturaj Gaikwad. He credited Dhoni and head coach Stephen Fleming for grooming Gaikwad into a calm and composed leader.

With an eye on the future, CSK is now preparing for a mega auction and squad rebuild ahead of IPL 2027, signaling a new chapter even as they keep the door open for their beloved “Thala” in whatever role he chooses.
