MS Dhoni is one of the most loved cricketers India has ever produced. Only Sachin Tendulkar and Virat Kohli are more popular than him. Dhoni comes from a small city called Ranchi in Jharkhand, which was not known for cricket before him. He made it big with his own unique way of batting and keeping wickets. His captaincy style was different too. Sometimes he played it safe, other times he tried bold moves that no one expected.
Under Dhoni’s leadership, India won everything there was to win. He led India to the T20 World Cup title in 2007, his very first tournament as captain. Then came the 50-over World Cup in 2011, where Dhoni finished the match with a famous six. And for 18 months starting December 2009, India was the number one Test team in the world.
Dhoni is also known as “Thala” or leader for the Chennai Super Kings in the IPL. He has captained CSK to ten finals and won five titles in 2010, 2011, 2018, 2021 and 2023. He stepped down as captain before the 2024 season but took over again in 2025 when Ruturaj Gaikwad got injured. Dhoni is still famous for his big sixes and fast stumping behind the wickets, even at 44 years of age.

MS Dhoni is a wicketkeeper batter. He bats right-handed and keeps wickets for the team. He is also known for his calm and clever captaincy.
Dhoni has led India to three ICC trophies. He won the T20 World Cup in 2007, the 50-over World Cup in 2011, and the Champions Trophy in 2013. No other captain has won all three major ICC events.
Dhoni is the face of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK). He has been with them since the first IPL auction in 2008. The only time he played for another team was in 2016 and 2017 when CSK was banned, and he played for Rising Pune Supergiant.
Dhoni has won five IPL titles as captain. He led CSK to victory in 2010, 2011, 2018, 2021 and 2023. CSK is now the joint most successful team in IPL history along with Mumbai Indians.
Dhoni played his last international match for India in the 2019 World Cup semi-final against New Zealand. He officially announced his retirement on Instagram on August 15, 2020.
The helicopter shot is a batting style that Dhoni made famous. He uses his strong wrists to flick the ball over the mid-wicket area. The bat finishes in a circular motion that looks like a helicopter blade. It is a very difficult shot to play.
