Ishan Kishan’s ‘Whistle Podu’ Mock Angers CSK Fans After SRH’s Playoff Win

Sunrisers Hyderabad chased down 181 runs against Chennai Super Kings at Chepauk on May 18. The win secured their spot in the IPL 2026 playoffs. Ishan Kishan played a big role in that chase. He smashed 70 runs off just 47 balls and won the Player of the Match award.

But the real talking point happened after the match. During the post-match handshake, videos caught Ishan Kishan doing something unexpected. He copied CSK’s famous ‘Whistle Podu’ celebration. He also made a shooing gesture toward the crowd.

This did not go down well with CSK fans. They were furious and called it disrespectful. Many felt he was mocking their idol MS Dhoni. CSK supporters took to social media to express their anger.

SRH fans came to Kishan’s defence. They said it was just harmless banter. They also pointed out that they had to hear constant whistles from the CSK crowd throughout the match.

Kishan later posted on Instagram. His caption was playful and seemed to hint at all the noise around him.

What happened on the field?

CSK batted first and put up 180 runs. It was a tough target. But Kishan anchored the chase perfectly. His 70 runs came at a strike rate of nearly 150. He hit boundaries at the right moments and kept the scoreboard moving.

This win pushed SRH into the playoffs. For CSK, it was a disappointing end to their league stage.
