IPL 2026 to Open with RCB vs CSK as Finalists Start Campaigns Separately

RCB vs CSK

The Indian Premier League (IPL) Season 19 is set for an intriguing start, with defending champions Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and runners-up Punjab Kings (PBKS) beginning their campaigns on separate days, breaking from the tradition of featuring the finalists in the opening clash.

According to sources, the tournament will kick off on March 28 in Bengaluru, likely with a high-profile encounter between RCB and the ever-popular Chennai Super Kings (CSK). The following day, March 29, PBKS will play their first match at their home base in Mullanpur against Gujarat Titans.

The scheduling reflects the IPL’s preference for marquee matchups, with CSK, RCB, Mumbai Indians, and Kolkata Knight Riders consistently ranked among the league’s top four most valuable franchises by brand valuation firms.

Meanwhile, the BCCI has informed franchises that the annual captains and coaches meeting will be held in Mumbai on March 25. Key rule changes and strategic updates for the upcoming season are typically discussed during this gathering.

Ahead of that, the traditional captains’ photo shoot is scheduled for March 15 in New Delhi, marking the official countdown to the season’s start.
