IPL 2026 Playoff Race: RCB Qualified, 7 Teams Still Fighting for 3 Spots
One mistake can end the season as the playoff battle reaches its final stage
Royal Challengers Bengaluru have officially become the first team to qualify for the IPL 2026 playoffs. After 52 exciting matches, the playoff race has become very intense, with seven teams still fighting for the remaining three spots.
At the moment, RCB are sitting at the top of the table with 18 points and a strong net run rate of 1.065. Gujarat Titans are second with 16 points, while Sunrisers Hyderabad are third with 14 points. Punjab Kings, Rajasthan Royals, Chennai Super Kings, Delhi Capitals, and Kolkata Knight Riders are all still in the race.
Mumbai Indians and Lucknow Super Giants are already eliminated from the tournament.
RCB Looking Strong for Top-Two Finish
RCB have almost secured a top-two finish. They still have one match left against Sunrisers Hyderabad in Hyderabad.
RCB can confirm their top-two spot even before that game if Chennai Super Kings beat SRH or Gujarat Titans in their remaining matches. If RCB win their final game and reach 20 points, no other team will be able to catch them.
Even if RCB stay on 18 points, their excellent net run rate gives them a big advantage over other teams.
Gujarat Titans Close to Qualification
Gujarat Titans are also in a strong position. They only have one match left against Chennai Super Kings.
GT can qualify before that game if SRH beat CSK or if Rajasthan Royals lose to Lucknow Super Giants.
If Gujarat beat CSK and SRH lose one of their two remaining matches, GT will secure a top-two finish.
However, there is still a small chance that GT could miss the playoffs if multiple teams finish on 16 points and net run rate becomes important.
Sunrisers Hyderabad Control Their Own Fate
SRH have two important matches left against CSK and RCB.
If SRH beat CSK, they will directly qualify for the playoffs. If they lose to CSK but defeat RCB, they can still qualify depending on other results.
SRH have looked balanced this season, but their final position may depend on net run rate if several teams finish with the same points.
Punjab Kings Need Other Results
Punjab Kings have only one match remaining against Lucknow Super Giants.
PBKS can qualify with 15 points if only one among SRH, CSK, and RR reaches 16 points. They also need KKR to drop at least one game.
There is even a possibility for PBKS to qualify with 13 points, but for that to happen, many results must go in their favor.
Chennai Super Kings Still Alive
Chennai Super Kings still have two matches left against SRH and GT.
If CSK win both games, they will reach 16 points and have a strong chance of qualification. They can qualify without depending on net run rate if RCB beat SRH or RR lose one match.
CSK can also qualify with 14 points, but then they will need help from several other results.
Rajasthan Royals Need Strong Finish
Rajasthan Royals have matches left against LSG and Mumbai Indians.
If RR win both games and reach 16 points, they will likely qualify comfortably. Their chances improve further if either SRH or CSK fail to reach 16 points.
RR can still qualify with 14 points too, but that situation will depend heavily on other teams losing matches.
KKR Still Have Hope
Kolkata Knight Riders are not out yet. They still have two games left against Mumbai Indians and Delhi Capitals.
KKR can qualify with 15 points if only one among SRH, CSK, and RR reaches 16 points. They also need Punjab Kings to either lose or stay behind them on net run rate.
Even qualification with 13 points is possible for KKR, but several results must go perfectly in their favor.
Delhi Capitals Need a Miracle
Delhi Capitals are in the toughest situation among all remaining teams. They only have one match left against KKR.
DC can qualify with 14 points only if many results go their way. They need PBKS, RR, and CSK to lose key matches.
Their biggest problem is net run rate. Delhi’s NRR is -0.871, which is much lower than the other teams. Because of this, even if multiple teams finish on the same points, DC may still miss out.
IPL 2026 Playoff Race Reaches Final Stage
The playoff race has now become more exciting than ever. Every match can completely change the points table. One win can take a team close to qualification, while one defeat can end their season.
RCB are already through and look strong for a top-two finish. Gujarat Titans and Sunrisers Hyderabad also have control over their qualification chances. Meanwhile, teams like CSK, RR, PBKS, KKR, and DC are still fighting hard to stay alive.
The next few matches will decide everything, and fans can expect drama till the final league game of IPL 2026.
