IPL 2026 Playoff Race: 5 Teams Fighting for One Last Spot!

IPL 2026

RCB, GT and SRH are through, but who will grab the final playoff ticket?

The IPL 2026 playoff race is now entering its most exciting stage. After 63 matches, three teams have officially qualified for the playoffs while two teams have already been eliminated. But the biggest drama is still left because five teams are fighting for just one final playoff spot.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru became the first team to qualify after defeating Punjab Kings in Dharamsala. A day later, Sunrisers Hyderabad and Gujarat Titans also booked their playoff spots after SRH defeated Chennai Super Kings at Chepauk.

On the other side, Mumbai Indians and Lucknow Super Giants are officially out of the tournament.

Now the battle is between Punjab Kings, Rajasthan Royals, Chennai Super Kings, Delhi Capitals and Kolkata Knight Riders for the fourth playoff spot.

RCB Looking Strong for Top Two Finish

RCB are currently at the top of the table with 18 points and a massive net run rate of 1.065. They still have one match left against SRH.

If RCB defeat SRH, they will finish at the top of the table with 20 points. Even if they lose, their strong NRR gives them a very good chance of staying in the top two unless Gujarat Titans win by a huge margin against CSK.

At the moment, RCB look like one of the strongest teams in the tournament.

Gujarat Titans and SRH Fighting for Top Two

GT and SRH have already qualified with 16 points each, but both teams are still fighting for a top-two finish because it gives an extra chance in the playoffs.

GT will face CSK in their final league match. If they win and SRH lose to RCB, GT will comfortably finish in the top two.

Things become more interesting if both GT and SRH win their final matches. In that case, RCB, GT and SRH will all finish on 18 points, and Net Run Rate will decide the top two teams.

SRH also has a strong chance. Their win over CSK gave them huge confidence, and they now need a big performance against RCB to improve their NRR chances.

Punjab Kings Still Alive But Under Pressure

Punjab Kings had a big chance to move ahead but their loss against RCB made things difficult.

PBKS now have only one match left against LSG. Even if they win, they can only reach 15 points. Their qualification now depends heavily on other results.

They need Rajasthan Royals to lose at least one match. They also need KKR to drop at least one game or stay behind on Net Run Rate.

There is even a small chance for PBKS to qualify with 13 points, but many results must go in their favor.

Rajasthan Royals Control Their Own Destiny

RR may have lost six of their last eight matches, but they still have one big advantage. Their qualification is fully in their own hands.

They have two matches left against eliminated teams LSG and MI. If Rajasthan win both games, they will reach 16 points and directly qualify for the playoffs.

Even if they finish on 14 points, RR can still qualify if PBKS, CSK and DC lose their matches and MI defeat KKR.

For Rajasthan, the equation is simple. Win both matches and forget all other calculations.

CSK Need Help From Other Teams

CSK’s defeat against SRH badly damaged their playoff hopes. They are now on 12 points and can only reach 14.

To qualify, CSK must defeat Gujarat Titans in their final match. But that alone will not be enough.

They also need:

  • RR to lose both matches
  • LSG to beat PBKS
  • KKR to defeat DC but lose against MI

If all these results happen, CSK can still sneak into the playoffs because their NRR is currently better than DC.

Delhi Capitals Need a Miracle

Delhi Capitals are in the toughest situation because their Net Run Rate is very poor at -0.871.

DC must defeat KKR in their last game. Along with that, they need:

  • LSG to beat PBKS
  • RR to lose both matches against LSG and MI
  • GT to beat CSK

Only then can Delhi qualify without NRR becoming important. One wrong result and DC will be eliminated.

KKR Still Have a Chance

KKR still have two matches left against MI and DC. That gives them a small advantage over some other teams.

If KKR win enough matches and RR lose one game, they can qualify with 15 points. There is also a path for KKR with 13 points, but they would need:

  • GT to beat CSK
  • RR to lose both matches
  • PBKS to lose against LSG

NRR could become important in this situation.

The IPL 2026 playoff race is now at its peak. RCB, GT and SRH have already secured their places, but the fight for the last spot is completely open.

Rajasthan Royals currently have the easiest path because they control their own destiny. PBKS, CSK, DC and KKR are all depending on multiple results.

With only a few league matches left, every run, wicket and over can change the playoff picture. Fans should get ready for a thrilling finish to the IPL 2026 league stage.
