IPL 2026 Final Under Yellow Alert: Rain Threat Looms Over Ahmedabad Clash

The stage is set for a thrilling IPL 2026 final between Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) and Gujarat Titans (GT) at Ahmedabad’s Narendra Modi Stadium, but weather officials have issued a yellow alert for parts of Gujarat, warning of high wind speeds and possible thunderstorms on Sunday.

The city has been enduring a severe heatwave, with temperatures soaring to 43.1°C on Saturday. While significant rainfall is only expected to hit the region on June 1, rain interruptions during Sunday’s final cannot be ruled out.

The IPL has a designated reserve day in case of weather interruptions. However, Monday’s forecast appears even wetter than Sunday’s. Officials will make every effort to complete the match, even a curtailed one on Sunday itself.

If the final cannot be completed over two days, RCB will be declared winners by virtue of finishing higher than GT on the league stage points table.

This is not the first time Ahmedabad has faced such a situation. In the 2023 IPL final between GT and Chennai Super Kings (CSK), thunderstorms caused flooding in parts of the city, forcing the match to be pushed to the reserve day.

GT’s return home after their Qualifier 2 win over Rajasthan Royals was delayed due to inclement weather in north-western India, with temporary runway closures in Chandigarh disrupting travel. The squad landed in Ahmedabad close to 11 PM on Saturday.

Both sides are chasing their second IPL title. GT won their first in 2022 and have now made three finals, while RCB broke an 18-year drought by winning their maiden title last year in Ahmedabad against Punjab Kings.
