IPL 2025 Updates: Harry Brook Withdraws from IPL 2025, Faces Potential Two-Year Ban
England’s star batter Harry Brook has pulled out of the upcoming IPL season, marking the second consecutive year he has withdrawn from his contract with Delhi Capitals. Brook, who was bought for ₹6.25 crore at the 2023 IPL mega auction, cited the need for “time to recharge after the busiest period in my career to date” in a social media post.

This decision could have serious consequences, as the IPL’s new rules state that any overseas player who withdraws after being picked at the auction faces a two-year ban from the league. The only exception is if the withdrawal is due to an injury or medical condition confirmed by the player’s home board.
Brook’s withdrawal comes at a crucial time for Delhi Capitals, who are yet to announce their captain for the 2025 season and now must also find a replacement for the English batter. The 2025 IPL kicks off on March 22, with Delhi Capitals set to face Lucknow Super Giants in their opening match on March 24.
This isn’t the first time Brook has pulled out of the IPL. Last year, he withdrew just 10 days before the 2024 season began, citing personal reasons following the death of his grandmother. That decision also led to his absence from England’s Test tour of India.
Brook’s only IPL season to date was in 2023 with Sunrisers Hyderabad, where he scored 190 runs in 11 matches at an average of 22.11. His standout performance came against Kolkata Knight Riders, where he smashed an unbeaten 100 off just 55 balls at Eden Gardens.
While Brook’s focus remains on international cricket, his absence leaves a significant gap in Delhi Capitals’ lineup and raises questions about his future in the IPL. Fans and franchises alike will be watching closely to see how this situation unfolds.
