Gulf Giants Bring In Klinger, Refresh Coaching Staff After Title Drought

Gulf Giants appoint Michael Klinger as batting coach

The Gulf Giants are making moves. After a disappointing season, the ILT20 franchise has brought in some fresh faces to turn things around.

The biggest name? Michael Klinger. The former Australia batter has been named the team’s new batting coach. He joins a revamped coaching group that includes Kadeer Ali as fielding coach and Gary Brent as strength and conditioning coach. They will work alongside Shane Bond, who remains the bowling coach.

The Giants won the first-ever ILT20 title in 2023. Since then, they have not made the final. Last season, they finished fifth out of six teams. Something had to change.

Earlier this month, the franchise appointed Simon Helmot as the new head coach. He replaced Jonathan Trott, who left after just one season. Now, with Klinger on board, the Giants hope to find their winning touch again.

Klinger knows the setup well. He also coaches the WPL team Gujarat Giants, which is owned by the same group, Adani Sportsline. That means he already understands the team’s culture and goals.

In a statement, the team said Klinger brings “extensive experience as both a player and coach.” He has worked with women’s teams in the Hundred and WBBL. Now, he is ready for a new challenge.

“This is an exciting opportunity,” Klinger said. “Gulf Giants have strong foundations and I’m looking forward to working closely with Simon and the rest of the staff to help build a solid unit.”

With a fresh coaching team and a point to prove, the Giants will be hoping for a strong comeback in the next ILT20 season.
