Copper Ingots in Windrose are one of the first refined materials you will need if you plan to progress beyond basic tools and wooden gear. You cannot get them directly in the game, you have to find several other materials first to craft them.
If you are stuck on the Islander tutorial quest or trying to upgrade your weapons faster, this guide explains how to get Copper Ingots in Windrose step by step.
What Are Copper Ingots Used For?

Copper Ingots in Windrose are required for many early and mid-game recipes. The Islander tutorial quest alone asks you to smelt at least two. You can use them to craft melee weapons like the Club, Rapier, and Saber, as well as structural components such as the Copper Pickaxe and Copper Bullets. They are also required for utility items like the Fast Travel Bell and even armor like the Scavengers Set.
Step 1: Craft a Stone Pickaxe

Before you gather anything, you need the right tool. You have to build a Workbench using 5 Wood. Once that is done, craft a Stone Pickaxe with:
- 3 Wood
- 3 Stone
The Stone Pickaxe will allow you to mine Copper Ore deposits. Without it, you cannot begin the process of crafting Copper Ingots in Windrose. This is usually one of the first tools you craft during the tutorial.
Step 2: Find and mine Copper Ore

Copper Ore does not spawn randomly in the game. You will need to explore caves or rocky areas around the islands. When you approach a mineable Copper Ore deposit, a pickaxe icon appears. You can harvest it as much as you want.
Hit it with your Stone Pickaxe, and Copper Ore will drop into your inventory. Remember that 6 Copper Ore are required to produce just 1 Copper Ingots in Windrose. Small batches disappear quickly once you begin crafting weapons and stations. Mining in bulk saves repeated trips back to caves.
Step 3: Build a Charcoal Kiln for Fuel

Copper cannot be smelted without fuel. That fuel is Charcoal, and it is produced using a Charcoal Kiln.
To build a Charcoal Kiln, you need:
- 25 Wood
- 20 Clay
You can usually find Clay near the Coastline and Coastal Jungles. You can walk along beaches, riverbanks, and shallow edges while scanning the terrain carefully.
Once the charcoal kiln is built, insert Wood into it. Each piece of Wood converts into 1 Charcoal.
Since every batch of Copper Ingots in Windrose consumes Charcoal, producing fuel in advance will save time later.
Step 4: Build a Smelting Furnace

You cannot craft copper ingots at the Workbench. You need a Smelting Furnace.
To craft a Smelting Furnace, you need:
- 30 Stone
- 15 Clay
Place the Smelting Furnace in your base camp. Unlike some other crafting stations, it does not require shelter to function.
Step 5: Smelt the Copper Ore into Copper Ingots

Now that everything is ready, you can finally craft the Copper Ingots.
Open the Smelting Furnace and load:
- 6 Copper Ore
- 1 Charcoal
After a short wait, the furnace will produce 1 Copper Ingot. If the process does not start, make sure to double-check that both fuel and enough ore are loaded. The furnace will not start without both ingredients.
