New Zealand Lose Chapman and Ravindra for India ODI Series
Auckland: New Zealand’s injury troubles have compounded ahead of the five-match ODI series against India, with Mark Chapman and Rachin Ravindra ruled out of the entire campaign as they continue to rehabilitate from injuries that also kept them out of the T20I leg.
Chapman suffered an injury to his left hamstring during his stint at the European T20 Premier League. A recent MRI confirmed that he requires an additional two weeks of rehabilitation before attaining full fitness. Ravindra dislocated his right shoulder in a freak incident during a promotional shoot and requires more recovery time before he is ready to field at full capacity.
“Everyone knows what an asset Mark and Rachin are to this side so it’s a shame they have to miss this series,” head coach Rob Walter said. “I caught up with Mark last week and although he’s disappointed he’s working hard to get back on the field. With Rachin, his shoulder hasn’t quite recovered to a position where he could field comfortably in white-ball cricket, so with the Test series later this month we don’t want to take any undue risks.”
The absences are significant. New Zealand lost the T20I leg 3-2, and the ODI series beginning in Auckland on November 4 now demands a reshuffle of both the batting order and the available resources.
Reinforcements Called Up
Wicketkeeper batter Tim Seifert has been called up for the first three ODIs, having already been named for the last two games of the series. Left-handed batter Henry Nicholls and all-rounder Dean Foxcroft have also been summoned, with Nicholls added for the first three matches and Foxcroft joining for the last two.
Pacer Matt Fisher, initially named for the last two games alone, now joins the squad for the first three. Matt Henry, sidelined from the last three T20Is with a low-grade tear in his right quadricep, will assemble with the squad on Monday, with his readiness to play to be assessed.
The split squads reflect the selectors’ attempt to manage workloads and cover absences across a demanding schedule. Mitchell Santner captains both groups, with the first three matches featuring Tom Latham behind the stumps and the final two including Finn Allen, Kristian Clarke, Mitchell Hay and Lockie Ferguson among the additions.
New Zealand squad for ODIs 1-3: Mitchell Santner (captain), Michael Bracewell, Devon Conway, Jacob Duffy, Matt Fisher, Matt Henry, Kyle Jamieson, Tom Latham (wicketkeeper), Daryl Mitchell, Henry Nicholls, Glenn Phillips, Tim Seifert, Nathan Smith, Will Young, Blair Tickner
New Zealand squad for ODIs 4-5: Mitchell Santner (captain), Finn Allen, Michael Bracewell, Kristian Clarke, Jacob Duffy, Matt Fisher, Dean Foxcroft, Lockie Ferguson, Mitchell Hay (wicketkeeper), Nick Kelly, Tim Seifert (wicketkeeper), Blair Tickner, Will Young
