Tony de Zorzi is an attacking left-handed top-order batter from South Africa who has steadily risen through the ranks to establish himself as a national team regular. The 28-year-old from Johannesburg attended King Edward VII School, the alma mater of Graeme Smith and Quinton de Kock, and captained South Africa at the 2016 Under-19 World Cup. While early international recognition didn’t translate into immediate success, de Zorzi’s move to Western Province in 2020 proved transformative, with a first-class average of 48.33 in 2021-22 followed by 69.00 in 2022-23, including a triple-hundred that forced his way into national plans. He made his international debut in 2023 against West Indies across both Tests and ODIs, scoring 85 in his third Test innings and an unbeaten 119 in his fourth ODI. Known for his command of the pull shot and his confident approach, de Zorzi has also earned a contract with Durban’s Super Giants in the SA20. As one of very few black African batters in South African cricket, he carries expectations beyond his own and consistently dedicates his performances to his mother Natasha, who raised him as a single parent.
