Brandon Mavuta is a leg-spinning allrounder from Zimbabwe who burst onto the international scene with promise but has faced challenges in translating his domestic success to the highest level. The 29-year-old from Kadoma made his first-class debut in 2016, taking 6 for 45 in his very first innings for Mid West Rhinos, and quickly established himself as a consistent wicket-taker on the domestic circuit. His international breakthrough came in 2018 when he represented Zimbabwe across all three formats within four months, including a memorable Test debut against Bangladesh where he picked 4 for 21 in the second innings to help secure Zimbabwe’s first away Test win in 17 years. Despite his domestic consistency—with 220 first-class wickets in 56 matches at an average of 29.85, including 12 five-wicket hauls and two 10-wicket match hauls—Mavuta has struggled to replicate that form in international cricket. A suspension in January 2024 for recreational drug use alongside Wessly Madhevere temporarily derailed his career, but he has since made a comeback into the national side.
