Father: Sithembele Vuyo Bavuma, Mother: Phumza Bavuma, Wife: Phila Lobi
Temba Bavuma is a technically accomplished right-handed middle-order batter who has become a symbol of progress and resilience in South African cricket. The 36-year-old from Cape Town grew up in Langa, the same township that produced Thami Tsolekile and Malusi Siboto, and made history as the first black African batsman picked in South Africa’s Test squad. Without the advantage of height or power, Bavuma’s game is built on finesse, patience, and sound technique—particularly off the back foot—which has served him well throughout his career. He made his first-class debut for Gauteng at 18 and quickly established himself in the Lions setup, earning a vice-captaincy role by 2013-14. His consistent performances for South Africa A earned him a Test call-up against West Indies at the end of 2014, and he has since become a mainstay in the national setup. Known for his fighting spirit and ability to anchor innings, Bavuma has also led South Africa across formats, embodying the resilience and determination that defines his career.
