Axar Patel Fined for Slow Over-Rate in Delhi Capitals’ Win Over Punjab Kings

Axar Patel

Delhi Capitals captain Axar Patel has been fined INR 12 lakh for a slow over-rate in their match against Punjab Kings in Dharamshala on Monday.

The fine was given because Delhi Capitals broke Article 2.22 of the IPL Code of Conduct, which deals with minimum over-rate offences. Since this was the team’s first such offence this season, Axar got the usual penalty of INR 12 lakh.

Axar is not the only captain to face this fine this season. Other skippers like Ajinkya Rahane (KKR), Shreyas Iyer (PBKS), and Ruturaj Gaikwad (CSK) have also been fined for slow over-rates.

Despite the penalty, Delhi Capitals won the match by three wickets. This victory kept their slim playoff hopes alive. They are now seventh in the points table with 10 points from 12 matches.

Axar himself played a key role with the bat. He scored 56 runs off just 30 balls, helping his team chase down the target after early wickets fell. He did not bowl in this match as the fast bowlers handled all 20 overs on a pace-friendly pitch.

Delhi Capitals have two more matches left this season. They will face Rajasthan Royals at home next, and then finish their campaign against Kolkata Knight Riders at Eden Gardens on May 24.
