About Sunrisers Hyderabad

Although SRH kept 20 players from the Chargers team, including Kumar Sangakkara as captain, it took time for them to build a strong and steady team. In their first two years, they tried four different captains: Sangakkara, Cameron White, Daren Sammy, and Shikhar Dhawan. Their bowling was generally better than batting, but they had trouble finding the best combination of players.

Sunrisers started shaping their own style in 2015 when David Warner became captain. That year, they finished sixth, but unlike earlier captains, Warner stayed in charge because of his strong performance. In 2016, he led SRH to their first IPL title. From then on, Warner, head coach Tom Moody, mentor VVS Laxman, and bowling coach Muthiah Muralidaran worked very well together. Rashid Khan also became an important player during these years.

In 2020, Trevor Bayliss took over as head coach, but after a poor 2021 season, he left. That season, Warner was dropped, and Kane Williamson became captain. This year marked the end of SRH’s time with Warner and Rashid. Moody returned as director of cricket before the 2021 season and became head coach again in 2022, but Brian Lara replaced him later that year. Then in 2024, Daniel Vettori took over as head coach, and Pat Cummins was named captain. Cummins led the team to the final that year.

SRH’s big moment came in 2016 when they finished third in the points table but won three knockout matches in a row to claim their first title. They also reached the final in 2018 without Warner, who was their captain and best batsman, and again in 2024 under Pat Cummins.

The team struggled in 2021, winning only three out of 14 games and finishing last on the points table. This was worse than their previous bottom finishes in 2014 and 2015 when they ended sixth. Two years later, in 2023, they again finished in tenth place.
