BCCI Names 30-Player Probables for Asian Games 2026; Vaibhav Suryavanshi, Bumrah Lead Star-Studded List
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has submitted a formidable 30-player probables list to the Indian Olympic Association (IOA) for the men’s T20 cricket event at the Asian Games 2026, scheduled in Aichi-Nagoya from September 19 to October 4.
India will be aiming to defend the gold medal they won at the 2023 Hangzhou Asian Games.
Squad Highlights:
- Youth & Experience: The list features 15-year-old batting sensation Vaibhav Suryavanshi alongside established stars like Yashasvi Jaiswal, Abhishek Sharma, Rishabh Pant, Sanju Samson, Shreyas Iyer, Hardik Pandya, and pace spearhead Jasprit Bumrah.
- Notable Omissions: Current T20I captain Suryakumar Yadav and Shubman Gill are absent from the probables list, likely due to concurrent international commitments.
- Captaincy Candidates: 2023 Asian Games-winning captain Ruturaj Gaikwad makes the probable list but is not in the shortlist for leadership. The captaincy contenders are believed to be Shreyas Iyer and Tilak Varma.
- Fan Reactions: Social media witnessed strong reactions from fans over certain selection calls, including Gaikwad’s exclusion from captaincy contention, Pant’s inclusion over other keepers, and the omission of some regular T20I faces.
The probable list reflects the BCCI’s strategy of blending IPL form, youth, and experience as India seeks back-to-back gold medals at the continental games.
