Rohit Hits the Nets as Mumbai Indians Begin Quest for Elusive Sixth IPL Title

Rohit Sharma

The Mumbai Indians (MI) have kicked off their IPL 2026 pre-season training, with all eyes on star batter and former captain Rohit Sharma, who has joined the squad looking “distinctly trimmer and fitter” after a two-month competitive break.

MI, who share the record for most IPL titles (five) with Chennai Super Kings (CSK), have not lifted the trophy since 2020. The franchise has endured a difficult five-year stretch, failing to make the playoffs three times including two last-place finishes and managing only fourth-place finishes on the two occasions they progressed past the group stage.

The Indian contingent has already begun training, with overseas players expected to join shortly. Rohit’s presence in the nets has generated significant buzz, as he looks to return to form ahead of the new season. The 38-year-old last played competitively in January’s ODI series against New Zealand at home, where he scored 26, 24, and 11 in India’s 2-1 series loss.

With Mumbai Indians desperate to end their title drought and Rohit keen to lead from the front with the bat, all signs point to a renewed focus at the five-time champions’ camp as they prepare for the March 28 season opener.
