Matthew Short Player Profile

Matthew Short is a batting allrounder from Australia who found his true form later in his career. He plays right-handed and bowls right-arm offbreak. For a while, Short struggled to settle with a team in the Big Bash League. But everything changed when the Adelaide Strikers asked him to open the batting in 2021. Since then, he has become one of the best players in the league. He won Player of the Tournament two years in a row. His T20 hundred against Hobart Hurricanes in 2023 came in a record chase of 230 runs. That performance helped him earn a spot in the IPL with Punjab Kings. Short made his Australia T20I debut in August 2023 and smashed 66 off just 30 balls in his second game. He also played in the 2025 Champions Trophy and scored his first ODI fifty against England. Short has shown promise in first-class cricket too, with a century for a Cricket Australia XI against England back in 2017. But injuries and his busy white-ball schedule have made it hard for him to focus on red-ball cricket.
