MS Dhoni Keeps Fans Guessing on Cricket Future Post
Cricket legend Mahendra Singh Dhoni has left fans and analysts in suspense, stating he will take his time to decide his future in professional cricket following Chennai Super Kings’ (CSK) final match of the IPL 2025 season. The 43-year-old, who led CSK to victory in their last outing in Ahmedabad, addressed the speculation during the post-match presentation, saying, “I have 4-5 months to decide. There is no hurry.”
Dhoni, the oldest player in IPL 2025, stepped in as captain mid-season after an injury to Ruturaj Gaikwad, guiding CSK to three wins against six losses in ten games. Batting lower down the order, he scored 196 runs across 13 innings, with a highest score of 30. Reflecting on the demands of top-level cricket, Dhoni noted, “Every year, it’s 15% more effort to keep the body fit. It’s professional cricket. You have to be at your best.”
The former Indian captain emphasized that retirement isn’t just about performance. “If cricketers start retiring because of performances, few of them will retire when they are 22,” he quipped. Instead, he highlighted the importance of hunger, fitness, and a player’s contribution to the team. “What is important is to see how much hunger you have. What kind of fitness you have. And how much you can contribute to the team. Whether the team needs you or not,” he added. Dhoni plans to head back to his hometown, Ranchi, to unwind with “a few bike rides” and take a couple of months to reflect before making a call. “I am not saying I am done. I am not saying I am coming back here at the same time,” he clarified, appreciating the “luxury of timing” to weigh his options.
