IPL 2025: Ahmedabad Likely to Host Final, BCCI Awaits Weather Clarity
The Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad is poised to host the IPL 2025 final on June 3 and Qualifier 2 on June 1, according to sources reported by iGamingKeeda. However, the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) has yet to confirm the venues for the final, Qualifier 1, and the Eliminator, as it closely monitors the monsoon’s movement across the country.
Weather Drives Venue Decisions
The BCCI’s hesitation to announce playoff venues stems from weather uncertainties, with the monsoon’s arrival being the key factor. Current forecasts suggest Ahmedabad is likely to remain rain-free in early June, making it a strong candidate for the final stages. Mumbai, a potential host for Qualifier 1 and the Eliminator, faces challenges due to recent heavy rainfall and overcast conditions. If North Indian cities like Delhi, Jaipur, or Lucknow show better weather prospects, the BCCI may opt for one of these instead.
Logistics Shape the Schedule
The BCCI is prioritizing operational efficiency by limiting the 17 remaining league matches and playoffs to six existing host cities: Mumbai, Lucknow, Ahmedabad, Delhi, and Jaipur. Moving broadcast equipment to new venues like Kolkata, Chennai, Hyderabad, Mohali, or Dharamsala was deemed impractical. Kolkata’s unpredictable weather led to KKR’s final games being relocated, while Chennai (CSK) and Hyderabad (SRH) each have only one home game, insufficient to justify equipment transport. Mohali and Dharamsala were excluded due to border tensions, with Punjab Kings reassigned to Jaipur for their two remaining home games.
Mumbai and Jaipur’s Strategic Roles
Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium, with broadcast equipment in place since May 6, is a logistical hub and a contender for playoff matches. Jaipur, now hosting three matches; including two for Punjab Kings and one for Rajasthan Royals—benefits from its new role as Punjab Kings’ base. CSK and SRH will play their single home games in Delhi, reflecting the BCCI’s strategy to consolidate operations. The decision to keep Rajasthan Royals’ final home game in Jaipur aligns with this streamlined approach.
The IPL resumes on May 17, with 17 league matches spread across the six host cities, setting the stage for a thrilling playoff race. The BCCI’s focus on weather and logistics ensures a smooth conclusion to the season, with Ahmedabad emerging as the likely venue for the grand finale. Fans are eagerly awaiting official confirmation as the tournament gears up for its climactic phase, running until June 3.
