IPL 2025: Abhishek Nayar Rejoins Kolkata Knight Riders Coaching Staff

Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR), the defending IPL champions, have welcomed back Abhishek Nayar to their coaching staff for the remainder of the 2025 Indian Premier League season. The franchise announced Nayar’s return via a social media post on Saturday, though it did not clarify the specific role he will undertake.
Nayar previously served as a coach during KKR’s triumphant 2024 campaign, which saw them clinch their third IPL title.

Nayar’s appointment follows his recent exit from the Indian men’s national team, where he served as assistant coach under head coach Gautam Gambhir since 2024. The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) relieved Nayar and fielding coach T. Dilip of their duties earlier this week, a decision believed to stem from India’s disappointing Test performances, including a 0-3 home series loss to New Zealand and a 1-3 defeat to Australia in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.
Currently placed sixth on the IPL 2025 points table with three wins from seven matches, KKR will look to Nayar’s expertise to boost their playoff prospects. The team is set to face Gujarat Titans in their next match on Monday, as they aim to climb the standings and defend their title.
