Rishabh Pant Out of Fifth Test After Foot Fracture, N Jagadeesan Replaces Him

Rishabh Pant

India’s final Test against England at The Oval will go ahead without wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant, who suffered a fractured right foot during the recent Manchester match. Pant was injured on Day 2 while batting, struck on his boot as he tried to play a scoop shot off Chris Woakes. Despite the severe pain, Pant came back the next day, showed courage by resuming his innings, and scored a determined fifty before being dismissed.

Medical checks later confirmed a fracture, ruling Pant out of action for at least six weeks. In swift response, selectors brought in Tamil Nadu’s experienced keeper-batter N Jagadeesan as Pant’s replacement for the critical series finale.

India’s head coach Gautam Gambhir praised Pant’s valor, calling his knock with a broken foot an “extraordinary show of character and team spirit.” Gambhir wished Pant a speedy recovery, underscoring his importance to India’s Test side.

There’s more good news on the injury front: pace bowlers Akash Deep and Arshdeep Singh are fit again and ready to play. However, Nitish Reddy remains out. The final Test squad sees a blend of youth and experience, and will be led by Shubman Gill.

India’s Squad for the Oval Test-

Shubman Gill (C), Yashasvi Jaiswal, KL Rahul, Sai Sudharsan, Abhimanyu Easwaran, Karun Nair, Ravindra Jadeja, Dhruv Jurel (WK), Washington Sundar, Shardul Thakur, Jasprit Bumrah, Mohammed Siraj, Prasidh Krishna, Akash Deep, Kuldeep Yadav, Anshul Kamboj, Arshdeep Singh, N Jagadeesan (WK)
