Injuries to Hazlewood and Abbott raise concerns for Australia about the Ashes series
England and Australia are all set to lock horns with each other in the upcoming Ashes 2025-26 series, and both teams are gearing up for the exciting series. However, both teams are facing a major injury threat before the first Test match, scheduled to start in Perth, Australia, on November 21.
It is noteworthy that Australian captain Pat Cummins has already been ruled out of the first Test of the series due to a lower back strain. However, Australia’s tension has now increased regarding Hazlewood and Abbott as well. Both these fast bowlers suffered hamstring problems during the match between New South Wales and Victoria at the Sydney Cricket Ground (SCG). They did not come on the field after lunch on the third day and went out of the field during the first session itself.
Speaking about the status of Hazlewood and Abbott, Cummins confirmed that both fast bowlers have undergone hamstring scans.
Speaking to the media, Cummins said, “Something went on there for about an hour. Both of them underwent scans. The full details are not yet available. I think Josh was pretty happy after the scan, so hopefully he’ll be fine. Sean, I’m not so sure. I think they’re still assessing.”
Moreover, Cummins said, “As I said, I think Josh was pretty confident when he walked off the field, so hopefully we shouldn’t make too much of a fuss about it. We’ll wait to see what happens over the next 24 hours,”
Furthermore, Cummins opened up about the status of his injury, reiterating that he would not be ready for Perth despite being in good shape during a bowling session at the SCG on November 12. However, he confirmed that there would be no further changes to Australia’s bowling attack for the upcoming series.
Updates on Hazlewood and Abbott Injury
Both bowlers were sent for scans, and while Hazlewood has been cleared to resume preparations for the Ashes opener in Perth, Abbott has been ruled out of the Ashes Opener with a moderate hamstring injury. Although until now, Australian captain Pat Cummins believed that he did not want to make any changes in the Squad right now, if Australia gets another injury from here, then definitely some players can get admission to it.
