India’s Disability Team Pays Tribute to Ganguly with Iconic Lord’s Balcony Celebration
India’s mixed disability cricket team may have lost the seven-match T20I series against England, but they signed off at Lord’s with both a victory and a gesture that resonated far beyond the scoreboard.

After sealing a 118-run win in the final encounter on August 19, the Indian players gathered on the iconic Lord’s balcony and recreated Sourav Ganguly’s famous shirt-waving celebration from the 2002 NatWest final. The moment, captured in videos that quickly circulated on social media, drew instant comparisons to one of Indian cricket’s most enduring images.
A Dominant Performance to End the Series
The victory itself was comprehensive. India posted 206 for 4, with Arjun Gawre leading the charge with 68 runs. Captain Majid Magray provided the finishing flourish, remaining unbeaten on 63 as the pair steered the innings past the 200-mark. In response, England were bowled out for 88, handing India a commanding win.
Though the result came too late to alter the series outcome, England had already secured the series 4-3, the performance provided a fitting end to India’s tour.
Ganguly’s Legacy Revisited
Sourav Ganguly’s shirt-waving celebration at Lord’s in 2002 remains one of Indian cricket’s most iconic moments. It came after India chased down 326 to win the NatWest final against England, a victory that marked a turning point in the team’s aggressive mindset under Ganguly’s captaincy. The image of Ganguly waving his shirt from the Lord’s balcony has since become a symbol of Indian cricket’s growing self-belief on the world stage.
The disability team’s tribute, coming at the same venue and after a morale-boosting win, was widely welcomed by fans, many of whom described it as a heartfelt nod to the sport’s storied traditions.
For a side that had endured more defeats than victories on the tour, the moment offered a glimpse of the pride and emotion that competition at Lord’s continues to evoke, regardless of the format or the stakes.
