Suryakumar Yadav on Road to Recovery, Eyes T20I Return Against Bangladesh

India’s T20I captain, Suryakumar Yadav, is on the mend following successful hernia surgery in Munich, Germany, and is eager to return to action for the upcoming T20I series against Bangladesh, starting August 26, 2025, in Chattogram. The 34-year-old middle-order batter, who last showcased his explosive form during IPL 2025 with Mumbai Indians, set a world record with 16 consecutive 25-plus scores, finishing the season with 717 runs; the highest by a non-opener and by any MI batter in a single IPL campaign.

India’s current schedule includes a Test tour of England, wrapping up on August 4, followed by a white-ball tour of Bangladesh featuring three ODIs and three T20Is. Suryakumar, absent from India’s 50-over side since the 2023 World Cup final, utilized this window to undergo surgery and focus on recovery, ensuring he’s fit to lead the T20I squad.
Since taking over the T20I captaincy after India’s 2024 T20 World Cup triumph, which saw the retirements of Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Ravindra Jadeja, Suryakumar has steered a dynamic batting line-up influenced by the IPL’s aggressive style. Under his leadership, India has consistently breached the 250-run mark, including a staggering 297 against Bangladesh in October 2024; the second-highest total in T20 history. Fans and teammates alike await his return to guide India’s high-octane T20 unit in the upcoming series.
