Rohit Sharma Reportedly Not in India’s 2027 ODI World Cup Plans, Say Sources

Rohit Sharma

The chatter around Rohit Sharma’s future is getting louder. According to a report in The Indian Express, the selectors have told the 39-year-old opener that he is not in the long-term ODI plans beyond the current series against England.

The Indian selectors are looking ahead. They want to give younger players a chance. Yashasvi Jaiswal is among the names being groomed as the future opener.

The series against England is currently tied at 1-1. In the second ODI, India were chasing 259 but collapsed to 233 all out. Rohit scored 26 off 47 balls, a slow knock that may have added to the growing concern.

It is not just Rohit. Ravindra Jadeja is reportedly being phased out too. Axar Patel is being preferred as the spin-bowling all-rounder for the future.

Batting coach Sitanshu Kotak did not give much away. He dismissed retirement talk and said he expects Rohit Sharma to shine in the series decider at Lord’s on July 19.

None of this has been confirmed by the BCCI. Until then, all of this remains speculation. For now, the ball is in Rohit’s court. The series decider could be his chance to silence the doubters.
