India’s Gurnoor Brar Gets Warning for Dangerous Throw in England ODI

Gurnoor Brar

India’s young fast bowler Gurnoor Brar has been handed a warning and one demerit point by the ICC. The reason? He threw the ball dangerously at the batter during the first ODI against England at Edgbaston.

It happened in the eighth over of England’s innings. Ben Duckett was on strike. He pushed the ball back to Brar. The bowler collected it and then threw it back at the batter. The ball missed Duckett by just a whisker.

The ICC said it was a breach of Article 2.9. That rule covers “throwing a ball at or near a player in an inappropriate and dangerous manner.”

On-field umpires Kumar Dharmasena and Mike Burns saw the incident. Third umpire Sam Nogajski and fourth official Russell Warren also reviewed it. The charge was levelled by all four.

Match referee Richie Richardson proposed the sanction. Brar admitted his mistake and accepted the warning. So there was no need for a formal hearing.

Brar now has one demerit point on his record. If a player gets four demerit points within 24 months, it converts into a ban. For now, it’s just a warning. But it’s a reminder to keep emotions in check on the field.
