Tammy Beaumont to Retire After Historic Lord’s Test Against India

After 17 years of international cricket, Tammy Beaumont has decided it is time to say goodbye. The England opener will retire after the one-off Test against India at Lord’s, a fitting stage for her final appearance.

Beaumont, 35, has played 260 matches for England since her debut in 2009. She leaves as England’s leading century-maker in Women’s ODIs, with 12 hundreds. She was the Player of the Tournament in the 2017 World Cup victory on home soil, top-scoring with 410 runs.

Her record includes a historic 208 at Trent Bridge during the 2023 Ashes, the first Test double-century by an England woman. She is also one of only two England women and one of just five England players overall to have scored international hundreds in all three formats.

“It’s been the greatest honour,” Beaumont said. “When I fell in love with playing cricket as a young girl, I barely knew that playing for England was an option. It brings me so much joy to think how many girls and boys have been inspired.”

She spoke about passing the baton to the next generation. “We’ve always wanted to take the cap forward. The time has come for me to hand over that privilege.”

Beaumont called the Lord’s Test, England’s first-ever women’s Test at the historic ground, “the perfect occasion to sign off.”

She will continue playing domestic cricket and thanked fans, teammates, coaches, and family for their support. “I couldn’t have gotten this far without your love and support all these years.”
