Washington Sundar is a bowling allrounder from Chennai who bowls right-arm offbreak and bats left-handed. He first caught everyone’s attention as a teenager when he replaced R Ashwin at Rising Pune Supergiant in the 2017 IPL. Sundar made his Test debut in the famous 2020-21 series win against Australia, scoring a fighting 62 and taking four wickets at the Gabba. Injuries and tough competition for spin spots slowed his career at times, but he kept coming back strong. In 2024, he was India’s best bowler against New Zealand with 16 wickets. Then in 2025, he scored his first Test hundred in England. Sundar has played for several IPL teams over the years, including Royal Challengers Bangalore, Sunrisers Hyderabad, and most recently Gujarat Titans.
