Shan Masood is a technically sound left-handed opening batter who has been a mainstay of Pakistan’s Test lineup for over a decade. The 36-year-old from Kuwait made his way through Pakistan’s junior ranks, being selected for the U-15 Asia Cup at just 13 after impressing Aaqib Javed, and making his first-class debut in 2007 with a composed 54 for Karachi. His breakthrough came with an excellent domestic season in 2012-13, scoring 543 runs at an average of 54.30, which earned him a Test call-up against South Africa in the UAE. Masood’s education in England also shaped his game; he set a school record at Stamford School with 1,237 runs at an average of 103 in 2009 and played first-class cricket for Durham University, gaining valuable experience against quality fast bowling. A student of the game who models his approach on Alastair Cook, Masood has been a consistent presence at the top of the order for Pakistan, known for his solid technique, patience, and ability to see off the new ball. He has also been a globetrotting presence in county cricket, representing Yorkshire, Derbyshire, and Hampshire.
