Dunith Wellalage is a highly promising left-arm orthodox spinner and capable lower-order batter who has rapidly emerged as one of Sri Lanka’s most exciting young talents. The 23-year-old from Colombo, educated at St. Joseph’s College, made his international debut in 2022 and has since become a regular fixture in Sri Lanka’s white-ball setups. His ODI record is particularly impressive, with 41 wickets in 34 matches at an average of 31.09, including two five-wicket hauls and best figures of 5 for 27. Wellalage’s first-class numbers are even more striking, with 111 wickets in 38 matches at an average of 28.37, including six five-wicket hauls and a best of 8 for 152. A genuine all-rounder, he has also contributed valuable runs, including a List A highest of 74 and first-class best of 99. His performances have earned him contracts across multiple franchise leagues, including the LPL, SA20, CPL, BPL, and PSL, making him one of the most sought-after young spinners in world cricket.
