Deepak Chahar is a classical swing bowler from Agra who has become one of India’s most skilled new-ball operators in white-ball cricket. After a sensational first-class debut for Rajasthan in 2010-11, where he took 8 for 10, injuries and fitness issues hampered his early career. However, he reinvented himself as a T20 specialist under the captaincy of MS Dhoni at Chennai Super Kings, flourishing in their triumphant 2018 return to the IPL. Chahar’s ability to swing the ball both ways made him a devastating powerplay bowler, with his career highlight being a record-breaking spell of 6 for 7 against Bangladesh in 2019. The 33-year-old has evolved beyond being just a new-ball bowler, developing death-overs skills and proving his value as a handy lower-order batter, as evidenced by his unbeaten 69 from No. 8 in an ODI against Sri Lanka in 2021.
