About Mumbai Indians

Mumbai Indians have grown to become one of the biggest teams in the IPL, sharing the record for most titles with Chennai Super Kings. Back in 2008, they were bought by Reliance for ₹487 crore, which made them the most expensive team at the time. In those early seasons, the squad featured legends like Sachin Tendulkar and Sanath Jayasuriya. By 2010, they’d made their mark by reaching their first IPL final, and in the years that followed, they brought in game-changers like Rohit Sharma, Zaheer Khan, and Kieron Pollard. Lasith Malinga also stood out, helping MI win the Champions League T20 in 2011 and earning himself top bowling honors.

It was 2013, though, that truly changed things. Rohit took over the captaincy, a young Jasprit Bumrah made his debut, and the team won all their home games. They beat Chennai in the final, finally getting their hands on the trophy; and giving Tendulkar a perfect farewell from the IPL. What followed between 2017 and 2020 was nothing short of dominance. Three titles in four seasons established Mumbai as a true giant of the format, with Rohit proving himself as a top T20 captain.

Like any great team, MI’s journey hasn’t been smooth all the way. In 2022, Pollard stepped away from playing and moved into a coaching role. Then in 2024, Hardik Pandya was handed the captaincy, but the team had a tough time and ended up at the bottom of the points table. The next season, they turned things around and made the playoffs, showing that the fighting spirit was still alive.

Players like Suryakumar Yadav, along with Rohit and Bumrah, give the team a strong and reliable backbone. Even when they’re not at their best, Mumbai always seems to bounce back. Sure, they’ve had tough season; like in 2009, 2022, and 2024; but they’ve never stopped being a team to watch. Whether lifting trophies or chasing a comeback, MI remains one of the most exciting franchises in IPL history.
