Gujarat Titans: History, Squads, Staff, Captains

The Gujarat Titans entered the IPL as one of two expansion teams ahead of the 2022 season when CVC Capital Partners secured the franchise for roughly Rs 5,625 crore (about $750 million). Right before their debut, they signed Hardik Pandya, Rashid Khan, and Shubman Gill, with Pandya selected to lead the team. Their coaching staff included Ashish Nehra as head coach, Gary Kirsten as mentor and batting advisor, and Vikram Solanki as cricket director.
Defying expectations, the Titans clinched the championship in their very first year. They nearly repeated this feat in 2023 but fell short to CSK in a final that went down to the last delivery.
Despite uncertainty after a challenging first auction; where new faces like Hardik, David Miller, Rashid Khan, and Mohammad Shami joined; few had high hopes for their inaugural season. Still, with Hardik’s strong leadership, the young squad quickly turned into title contenders.
Things changed in 2024 when Gujarat traded Hardik Pandya to the Mumbai Indians and promoted leading run-scorer Shubman Gill as captain. Unfortunately, injuries and a shuffled line-up led to a disappointing season, as they failed to make the playoffs. In 2025, the Titans showed resilience and staged a comeback, powered by strong top-order batting, yet their campaign ended in the eliminator.
