Where Winds Meet: How to Change Your Hair Color and Ditch the Default Black

Where Winds Meet guide

If you’ve spent any time in Where Winds Meet, you’ve likely noticed a common pain point: that default black hair staring back at you in the character creator. It’s a rite of passage for many of us, but yes, it’s a temporary one. Unfortunately, you cannot change your hair color during the initial character creation as the setting is locked

Hence, if you’re looking to customize your Wuxia warrior’s look, you need to progress into the game and get your hands on specific Hairdye items. Here is the breakdown of how to unlock those vibrant styles and how to apply them.

The Breakdown: Basic vs. Advanced Dyes

Before you head to the salon, you need to know which currency to hunt for. There are two tiers of dyes in Where Winds Meet, and your choice depends on whether you want a natural aesthetic or a bold, statement-making look.

Features Details
Skill Type Offensive, Single-target Burst
Unlock Method Drink ~8–10 wines from the Honest Merchant until “Wasted”
Merchant Location Hao Jiu (Blissful Retreat or Harvestfall Village)
Primary Effect 5-strike combo consuming 6 Vitality per hit; 30s Intoxicated buff
Breakthrough Material Vicious Fruit & Ebon Iron
The Cure Visit Yao Yaoyao at Evercare Clinic (Costs 13,000 Coins)

How to Get Them

  • Inkshade (Basic): You can snag these in the Jianghu Treasures shop (50 Pearls), the “Essence of Earth” shop (5 Essence of Earth), or at Zhao Feiyan’s Warehouse (25,000 Coins).
  • Timeless (Advanced): This is the premium tier. You’ll need to visit the Draw Shop and use a Harmonic Core to get a Hairdye Giftbox, which contains five dyes.

How to Apply Your Hair Dye (Step-by-Step)

Windrose in-game grab

Once you have your items in hand, don’t rush, as not every hairstyle is compatible. Follow these steps to ensure you don’t waste your resources.

  • Navigate the Menu: Open your main menu and head to the Appearance tab.
  • Access the Workshop: Inside Appearance, select the Workshop tab, then hit Dye.
  • Check for Compatibility: Look for your desired hairstyle. If it cannot be dyed, it won’t have any specific markings. If it can bcustomized, you will see a multicolored icon on the bottom-right corner of the thumbnail.
  • Customize: Select your style. You can adjust the Basic color (the main hair), Gradient (bottom of the hair), and Highlights.
  • Save Your Plan: After finalizing your look, you’ll need to spend 10 Dyes to save the configuration. Each hairstyle allows for 3 Dye Plans, so you can swap between looks without spending extra dye once they are saved.

Remember that dyeing is a consumable-heavy process. You are spending 10 dyes per Save. If you overwrite an existing plan, you’ll be charged again. Choose your colors wisely before hitting save!

FAQs

Q: Can I dye my starting hairstyle?
Unfortunately, no. Many of the base, starting hairstyles in the game do not support customization. Always look for that multicolored icon on the thumbnail before you commit to buying dyes.

Q: Are hair dyes one-time use?
Yes. Think of dyes as a consumable currency. Once you use them to save a Dye Plan, they are gone from your inventory. That’s why we recommend settling on a color scheme you’ll be happy with for a while.

Q: Is there any way to change my hair color for free?
Currently, the system is tied to in-game economies. While you can earn the currency (like Echo Jades or Coins) through gameplay, quests, and login rewards, there is no “free” infinite color slider in the game. You will always need to spend the specific Dye items to commit your changes.

Q: Why did my hair look different in the preview?
The preview window shows you the theoretical color. However, if you are mixing Highlights and Gradients, the lighting engine in the game can occasionally make colors look slightly different than they do in the UI. Save your plan, then check it in-game before committing to a massive grind for rare colors.
