How to Get the Snowstrike Hero Skin in Fortnite for Free

Fortnite Snowstrike Hero Skin

Epic Games is finally making a big change to Save the World, the original PvE mode that existed long before Fortnite Battle Royale became a global phenomenon. Starting April 16, 2026, Save the World will become free to play for everyone. To celebrate the milestone, Epic has launched a special community event where players can unlock several rewards before the mode officially goes free.

As part of this announcement, they are hosting a community event where you can earn several rewards for participating in this event, which is associated with this game mode transitioning into a free-to-play model.

One of the primary attractions for the community event is the Fortnite Snowstrike Hero, a character available for free by simply signing up for the Save the World community goal. If you would like to receive this character before the official transition into a free-to-play title, here are steps to take in order to qualify for this character.

To get the Fortnite Snowstrike Hero you need to register for a community event that will reward the Snowstrike Hero to all participants with at least 1,000,000 registered players. To sign up for the event you just need to register with Epic Games using the instructions below:

  1. Visit the Fortnite Save The World site.
  2. Click on the Register button.
  3. Log in to your Epic Games account.
  4. Confirm the registration and complete the registration process.

Your account will then count towards meeting the community goal. Each registered account contributes to reaching milestone goals and when enough players join the goal event then rewards will be unlocked for all registered accounts.

The final goal for the event is when 1,000,000 gamers register to participate in the goal event. Once there are 1,000,000 registered accounts, the Fortnite Snowstrike Hero skin will be awarded to everyone who has signed up.

There will not be any other challenges to complete other than the registration. If you sign up before the event ends on April 16, 2026, you will receive a Fortnite Snowstrike Hero skin, even if there are enough players before that date to meet the final goal for the event.

The Fortnite Snowstrike Hero is the final reward in the Save the World community registration event, but it is not the only item players can earn. Epic Games has added three milestone rewards tied to the total number of players who register for the event.

Complete list of all rewards:

Milestone Community Goal Reward
Milestone 1 300,000 registrations Save the World Jess Banner
Milestone 2 700,000 registrations Kyle’s Construction Spray
Milestone 3 1,000,000 registrations Snowstrike Hero

You can use the Jess Banner and Kyle’s Construction Spray in Battle Royale as well as Save the World. Unfortunately, the Snowstrike Hero is exclusive to Save the World mode and can’t be used as a cosmetic skin in Battle Royale.

The way you’ll receive this reward depends on whether you are an existing Save the World player or newly joining when it releases for free on April 16th. Existing Save the World players will get the Snowstrike Hero in advance of the free to play launch. New players who join after the mode becomes free will receive the hero only after completing the initial tutorial.

The Snowstrike Hero has a special ability called North Star that changes the properties of Throwing Stars by having them slow enemies down for a limited duration instead of giving normal damage. When the Throwing Star is used again after hitting an enemy, they’ll explode doing water damage. That ability becomes even stronger during combat once it is added to the commander perk, which also freezes the enemy.

Now is the time to get a rare free Hero from this community event before Save the World mode moves into it’s next chapter as all the players will be able to access it.
