Tamim Iqbal Appointed BCB President; Will Lead 11-Member Ad Hoc Committee

The Bangladesh government has appointed former national captain Tamim Iqbal as the new president of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) , following the dissolution of the previous board led by Aminul Islam. The decision comes after a five-member investigation committee found evidence of “irregularities in the election process” of the board held in October last year.

At 37 years of age, Tamim becomes the youngest BCB president in history. He will lead an 11-member ad hoc committee, which includes former Bangladesh captain Minhajul Abedin and former cricketer-turned-commentator Athar Ali Khan.

The other members of the committee are Rashna Imam, Mirza Yeasir Abbas, Syed Ibrahim Ahmed, Israfil Khasru, Tanjil Chowdhury, Salman Ispahani, Rafiqul Islam, and Fahim Sinha.

Speaking to the media after his appointment, Tamim emphasized the need to restore Bangladesh’s cricketing reputation. “We have to correct Bangladesh’s reputation. We have to fix the damaged reputation of the last year and a half. It is our most important job right now.”

The National Sports Council’s sports director, Mohammed Aminul Ahesan, confirmed that the elected body was dissolved due to “significant weaknesses and irregularities” in the election process. The ICC has been informed about the formation of the ad hoc committee, which will run the board for the next three months and will be obliged to present an elected committee within that timeframe.

Aminul Islam had previously stated his determination to stay on as BCB president despite mounting pressure from the sports ministry, which had questioned the validity of the board election and raised concerns over Bangladesh’s absence from the recent men’s T20 World Cup, along with allegations of political interference and favoritism.

Tamim, one of Bangladesh’s greatest cricketers, played 391 internationals across formats and led the national team to 21 wins in 38 matches. His playing career was cut short by a heart attack during a Dhaka Premier League match in 2025.
