No Cummins, Starc or Hazlewood as Australia Name Young Squads for Asia Tour

Australia will be without their three star fast bowlers for the upcoming white-ball tour of Pakistan and Bangladesh.

Pat Cummins, Mitchell Starc and Josh Hazlewood have all been left out of the squads for the matches starting later this month. The trio will use this time to rest and prepare for a busy Test schedule later in the year.

In their place, Australia have called up some exciting young players. Ollie Peake, who led Australia to victory in the Under-19 World Cup, gets a spot in the ODI squad for Pakistan. Liam Scott, an uncapped all-rounder, is also in the team.

Young batter Joel Davies will join the T20I squad for the Bangladesh leg of the tour. Fast bowlers Riley Meredith and Billy Stanlake are also back in the team for the Pakistan matches.

Mitchell Marsh will lead Australia in all the white-ball games against both countries. There is no place for veteran all-rounder Glenn Maxwell in the T20I squad.

Selection chief George Bailey said this is a great chance for new players to show their talent.

“It’s always exciting to see new players get an opportunity to play international cricket and be a part of the national team,” Bailey said.

He added that giving players experience in different conditions is very important for future campaigns.

Australia will play three ODIs against Pakistan starting May 30 in Rawalpindi. They will then play three ODIs and three T20Is against Bangladesh in Dhaka and Chattogram through June.
