Litton Das Injury Scare Ahead of Bangladesh vs India Clash

Bangladesh faced a worrying injury concern on September 22 ahead of their crucial Asia Cup 2025 Super Four match against India. Captain Litton Das suffered a back strain during a training session at the ICC Academy Ground in Dubai. The injury happened while he was batting in the nets, attempting a square cut, when he felt discomfort on the left side of his lower back. After experiencing the pain, Litton withdrew from the practice session and was immediately assessed by team physiotherapist Bayzid ul Islam.
A Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) official told Cricbuzz that although Litton appeared well externally, a detailed medical evaluation was necessary before confirming his availability for the upcoming match. “We will have a look at him today because from outside he looks quite okay, but we need to conduct a medical assessment before making a final call,” the official stated.
While Litton did not display severe or lasting discomfort immediately after the incident, his possible absence is a major concern for Bangladesh. Litton Das leads the team both as their captain and wicketkeeper-batsman, and losing him could create a significant leadership void. The BCB has not named a deputy captain for the tournament, leaving uncertainty over who would take charge if Litton is ruled out.
Bangladesh began their Super Four campaign on a positive note with a thrilling four-wicket win over Sri Lanka at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on September 20. In that match, Litton contributed with a quickfire 23 runs off 16 balls, helping Bangladesh establish a strong start in the chase before being dismissed. His experience and steady presence at the top order have been valuable as Bangladesh looks to maintain momentum.
Litton Das is also Bangladesh’s third-highest T20I run-scorer against India, amassing 230 runs from 11 innings at an average of 20.90 and a strike rate of 149.35, including one half-century. He is close to overtaking Mahmudullah as Bangladesh’s leading T20I run-scorer against India, needing just 19 more runs.
With Bangladesh scheduled to face India on September 24 and Pakistan the very next day, the team awaits Litton’s medical assessment with bated breath, hoping the skipper recovers quickly and participates fully in the high-stakes Super Four campaign.
