South Africa Announce Squads for Pakistan Tour: Bavuma Sidelined, De Kock Returns for ODIs
South Africa have named their squads for the multi-format tour of Pakistan in October 2025. Regular Test skipper Temba Bavuma has been ruled out of the two-match World Test Championship (WTC) series after suffering a grade two calf strain during the England tour.
Aiden Markram will captain the Test side in Bavuma’s absence. Spinner Simon Harmer returns after more than a year, while Keshav Maharaj will be available only for the second Test as he recovers from a groin injury.
De Kock Makes ODI Comeback
In a major boost, Quinton de Kock has reversed his ODI retirement. The wicketkeeper-batter last played a 50-over match after the 2023 ODI World Cup in India. He has also not featured in T20Is since the 2024 T20 World Cup final in Barbados.
Head coach Shukri Conrad called his return a “big positive,” praising De Kock’s quality and motivation.
New Captains for White-Ball Series
South Africa will play three ODIs and three T20Is against Pakistan. Senior players involved in the Test series (except Corbin Bosch and Dewald Brevis) will be rested from the white-ball games.
- Matthew Breetzke takes over as ODI captain.
- David Miller will lead the T20I side.
- For a one-off T20I against Namibia, Donovan Ferreira has been handed the captaincy to build leadership experience.
Squad Highlights
- Donovan Ferreira and Sinethemba Qeshile earned maiden ODI call-ups.
- Rivaldo Moonsamy named in the Namibia T20I squad.
- A strong mix of youth and experience across formats.
