ACB Limits Afghan Cricketers to Three Foreign T20 Leagues to Manage Workload

ACB Limits Afghan Cricketers

The Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) has introduced a significant new policy to regulate the workload of its players. During its Annual General Meeting in Kabul, the board decided that Afghan cricketers will now be permitted to participate in a maximum of three foreign T20 leagues per year, in addition to the domestic Afghanistan Premier League (APL).

The policy, announced on Wednesday, aims to safeguard “player fitness and mental well-being” and ensure their peak performance for national duties. The decision could notably impact several high-profile Afghan players such as Rashid Khan, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Noor Ahmad, and Rahmanullah Gurbaz, who are in constant demand across global T20 circuits and often juggle multiple league commitments.

In another key decision, the ACB has mandated that its foreign coaching staff must visit Afghanistan when required. This clause is intended to ensure that domestic players benefit directly from elite coaching expertise, fostering the development of local talent.

The ACB leadership, chaired by Mirwais Ashraf, was also commended during the meeting for successfully resuming the Afghanistan Premier League and launching major infrastructure projects within the country.
