Moliya’s Unbeaten 321 Sets Baroda Record in Ranji Trophy

Priyanshu Moliya

Vadodara: Priyanshu Moliya produced an innings of rare scale and concentration at the Reliance Cricket Stadium, striking an unbeaten 321 off 492 balls to lift Baroda to 616 in their Ranji Trophy first innings against Jammu and Kashmir. The knock stands as the highest individual first-class score in Baroda’s history.

The innings included 36 fours and a single six, a boundary count that reveals the shape of the effort. This was not a whirlwind assault but a long, methodical accumulation, built over sessions and sustained through the pressure of a struggling team.

Moliya resumed on 113 after Baroda had wobbled to 169 for 5. From that uncertain position, he added 208 more runs to his overnight tally, anchoring the innings as wickets continued to fall around him.

Pithiya’s Supporting Century

The decisive partnership came for the seventh wicket, where Mahesh Pithiya provided the support Moliya required. Pithiya notched his maiden first-class century, making 102, and the stand rescued Baroda from the precarious position they had occupied on the opening day.

For a young batter to convert a century into a triple hundred requires a specific temperament. Moliya’s ability to bat through the innings, shepherding the lower order and farming the strike when necessary, underlined the composure that has marked his progress through the age-group ranks.

A Career Built on Records

The triple century is the latest entry in a career that has tracked steadily upward. Moliya first drew attention through Under-13 records before progressing to appearances at the Under-19 World Cup. That pathway has now produced first-class innings of historic proportions for his state.

Moliya has credited mentor Mohinder Amarnath for shaping his classical style and his temperament in big matches. The influence is visible in an approach that prizes patience and technical soundness over improvisation, qualities that served him well across a 492-ball innings.

For Baroda, the total of 616 provides a commanding platform. For Moliya, the innings establishes a benchmark that will be difficult to surpass and one that will invite attention from selectors monitoring the domestic circuit.
