Litton Das in Doubt for T20I Opener; Soumya Sarkar Rushed In as Cover
There is some concern in the Bangladesh camp ahead of the T20I series against Australia. Captain Litton Das may not be fit for the first match. The team has brought in an experienced backup just in case.
Litton picked up a muscle strain during the third ODI against Australia on June 14. It happened in Mirpur. While the injury is not serious, the team is not taking any chances. Litton will undergo a scan on Tuesday. A final call on his availability will be made closer to the match.
The Bangladesh Cricket Board has added Soumya Sarkar to the T20I squad. The 33-year-old opener has played 87 T20Is for Bangladesh and scored 1,462 runs. He was already with the ODI squad and will now stay on for the T20s.
He brings a lot of experience and gives the team batting depth if Litton does not recover in time.
The three-match T20I series begins on Wednesday, June 17 in Chattogram. The remaining matches will be played on June 19 and 21.
Bangladesh will be hoping their captain recovers quickly. But if not, they now have a solid replacement ready to step in.
