The Mumbai Indians have further bolstered their coaching staff for the upcoming Women’s Premier League (WPL) season, appointing former Australian leg-spinner Kristen Beams as their new spin bowling coach.

Beams, who represented Australia in all three formats, brings a wealth of experience both as a player and a coach. As a player, she was the third-highest wicket-taker at the 2017 ODI World Cup and featured in 45 Women’s Big Bash League matches. Since retiring, she has built a strong coaching portfolio, including roles as the Head Coach of the Australia Women’s U19 team and as National Development Lead at Cricket Australia.

In the Mumbai Indians setup, Beams will join a high-profile support staff led by head coach Lisa Keightley, which includes legendary pacer Jhulan Goswami as bowling coach and mentor, Devika Palshikar as batting coach, and former Australian batter Nicole Bolton as fielding coach.

Expressing her excitement about the new role, Beams highlighted the franchise’s winning culture and family environment. “It’s an incredible opportunity to work with someone like a Jhulan Goswami, one of the greats of the game,” she said in an Instagram post by the franchise. She added that being part of a “tight-knit” team that “knows how to win” was a major attraction.

The two-time WPL champions will begin their 2026 campaign on January 9 against the 2024 title winners, Royal Challengers Bangalore.
