Delhi Capitals Captain Jemimah Rodrigues Fined for Slow Over-Rate in WPL Defeat
Delhi Capitals captain Jemimah Rodrigues has been penalized for a slow over-rate offense following her team’s narrow three-run loss to Gujarat Giants in the Women’s Premier League (WPL) on Tuesday.
In what was Rodrigues’s first over-rate offense of the season, she was fined INR 12 lakh by the match officials. The defeat came in dramatic fashion, as DC failed to chase down Gujarat’s total of 174/9 despite a late fightback led by a spirited seventh-wicket partnership.
The match swung decisively in the final overs. After conceding 15 runs in the 20th over with the ball, Delhi’s chase seemed to falter early before staging a comeback, only for Gujarat’s Sophie Devine to hold her nerve in the last over and secure a tense win.
The result complicates Delhi’s playoff hopes, leaving their fate dependent on their final league match against UP Warriorz on February 1.
